New Year, Old Thoughts, and a New Attempt at a Photo Project

It’s nearly midnight, if not already by the time I finish that thought, and I can’t sleep.  Instead I’m up, staring at a computer, my Flickr account, and listening to Brandi Carlile on my iPhone.  I think this is why I decided that right now would be the best time to start this little project. A picture… one… for every day of the year.  That comes out to 366 pictures (leap year ‘08!).  That’s the gist of this project.  I remember hearing about this project last year and thinking that it would be interesting and fun to try… and then the middle of January came around and it died before it really took off.  I’m hoping for a better showing this year. I can’t think of a better way to flex a little, often unused, creative muscle.  I love photography, and I feel like it is my one, and best, contribution to the creative world.  To me, the camera allows me to do what comes naturally to me: to disappear and let the world around me continue on, unfettered and undisturbed, so that I can in some way understand it better.  It allows me to capture a moment… to see things from a frozen perspective… I’m hoping that throughout this year, in these 366 days, I can do that at least once a day.  I know that some of the pictures I’ll take will be those “last-minute” shots, to allow myself to sleep better, knowing that I did get that picture in before the end of the day…But I also hope that through this endeavor, I will also grow creatively and mentally, and to see the world in at least one new perspective.
